A fiesta is a great way to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. It combines some of our favorite things…Mexican food, margaritas and hanging out with friends!
If you are looking for inspiration for your annual fiesta, check out these 5 tips.
TIP #1 DECOR
Get your friends excited for the celebration by creating a simple, colorful decor. Mexico is known for its vibrant colors and artistic culture. Target’s new line Opalhouse has everything you need to throw a festive celebration. We thought these pink and blue medallion-print appetizer plates on this ikat-patterned throw created the perfect decor for our guests. We love to combine color, texture and height to a table. How cute is this wood and bead garland!? I’m sure your first thought is to hang it on a wall or drape it on the edge of a table. Make your table anything but traditional, lay the garland directly on the table for a fun and festive layered look. For the finishing touch, add vibrant flowers or a cactus plant!
TIP #2: FOOD
Don’t stress on what to serve! One of the best things about Cinco de Mayo is the food. Mexican food not only tastes great but certain recipes are quick and easy to make. Instead of a sit down meal, make your party easy going and fun with appetizers and finger food. Here are a couple easy recipes your guests are sure to love!

TIP #3: DRINKS
There are so many drink options for your fiesta. A must-have are MARGARITAS!!! Our new favorite is this ready-to-serve Jose Cuervo Grapefruit Tangerine Margarita mix. This refreshing twist on a traditional margarita is a great option to serve your guests. We also suggest using a beverage dispenser. We love these matching margarita glasses and drink dispenser from Target. The nice thing about a dispenser is that you can pre-fill it before the party, we suggest adding slices of fruit that compliment your drink of choice. We added tangerine and limes slices to our grapefruit tangerine margarita mix, isn’t the subtle pop of color so pretty? When your guests arrive, take it out of the refrigerator for an easy and festive way to serve your margaritas.
TIP #4: MUSIC
Music is key when setting the mood of a party. This particularly holds true for a Mexican fiesta. If you can splurge on a mariachi band or a solo guitarist that would add that special something to your celebration. If you can’t splurge, which let’s be honest most of us can’t have our own personal musicians, we would suggest focusing on a good playlist. Choose songs that have an upbeat tempo to create a happy mood. Be sure to include songs with a Mexican theme such as La Bamba by Ritchie Valens or Tequila by The Champs!
TIP #5: RELAX AND HAVE FUN
Fiestas are a casual, fun celebration. You have done all the prep work, now remember to sit back, have a margarita and enjoy time with your friends!
¡Salud!
